Glossary

ALA (alpha-linolenic acid)

The plant omega-3 fatty acid, found in linseed, chia seeds, walnuts and rapeseed oil, among others.

ALA is a shorter omega-3 fatty acid than EPA and DHA. The body can convert a small part of ALA into EPA and even less into DHA.

Plant sources are good for the rest of the diet, but they do not replace oily fish as a source of EPA and DHA.
