Dried blood spot (DBS)

A few drops of blood from the fingertip, dried on a filter card and posted to the laboratory.

A dried blood spot (DBS) is the method most at-home fatty-acid tests use. You prick your finger, let a few drops fall on the card, let it dry and post it.

The method has been validated against regular venous blood samples for fatty-acid analysis. The most important thing for a good result is to follow the instructions carefully.
